Your Roku account stores private info like your email, password, payment method, preferences, settings, installed apps, and the Roku devices you own. Like any online account, it’s important to keep this information safe.
Use a valid email address
Pick an email you check often. We use it to send important account, subscription, and billing updates. If your email changes, update it in your Roku account so you don’t miss messages.
Create a strong, unique password
Create a password that’s hard to guess. Use at least 8 characters with a mix of numbers, symbols, and both lowercase and uppercase letters. Don’t reuse this password for other accounts.
Create a PIN for purchases and parental controls
Create a PIN to control who can make purchases on your Roku streaming device or Roku TV and to manage parental controls on The Roku Channel and Howdy.
After you create a PIN, it must be entered to approve purchases on Roku and The Roku Channel on Roku devices and TVs.
Watch for suspicious messages
Be careful with emails, texts, or calls that look like they’re from Roku but ask you to update payment info, share your username or password, or click strange links. If you’re not sure a message is real, contact Roku Support.
Avoid phishing websites
Scammers have been known to create fake sites that look like Roku to steal your information. During activation, you might see a site that asks for a fee to create a Roku account, activate a device, or get support. This is a scam. Roku never charges to create an account, activate a device, or provide customer support.

Stay informed and review charges
Check your email for account updates from Roku. Look over your Roku charges from time to time. If you see a purchase you don’t recognize, learn what to do about unrecognized charges.
