How do I set a reminder for a movie or TV show advertised on my Roku® streaming device?

Background

When using your Roku streaming player or Roku TV, you may see an advertisement for an upcoming movie or TV show with the option to set a reminder to watch the program when it airs. If you select the ad and set a reminder, a notification will be scheduled to appear moments before the movie or TV show begins.

What movies and TV shows can I set reminders for?

For you to set a reminder, a movie or TV show must appear in an advertisement. This includes advertisements on your home screen, or interactive ads that appear when you are watching something on a streaming channel, the Antenna TV input on your Roku TV, or a cable or satellite set-top box connected to an HDMI® input on your Roku TV.

  • Notes:

    • Not all advertised content includes the option to set a reminder.
    • Reminders cannot be set for any content that does not appear in an advertisement.

What happens when I see a notification?

Reminder notifications appear on your Roku device a maximum of two minutes before the movie or TV show begins. When you see the notification, you can select Tune-In to launch the channel where the program is about to start, or you can cancel the reminder.

If you do nothing, the notification disappears on its own after a short moment, and does not reappear.

  • Notes:

    • If your Roku device is unable to launch the channel, you will not see the Tune-In option and must start the program manually. This typically happens when a reminder is set for content airing on a set-top box.
    • Notifications do not appear after the movie or TV show has begun.

Can I manage reminders that have been set?

No. Reminders that have been set cannot be managed. If a notification appears and you do not wish to view the movie or TV show, simply cancel the reminder.

Are reminders unique for each of my Roku devices?

Yes. You must set a reminder on each of your Roku devices, even if it is for the same program.

Why did a notification not appear while I was watching another program?

Some channels do not permit notifications to appear, while others may only allow notifications when you are watching select content such as live programming. If you are watching a movie or TV show a few minutes before the scheduled program begins, but do not see a notification, the channel you are watching likely has limitations on when notifications can be presented.
