What do I do if there is a SOLID RED LIGHT on my Roku® Streaming Player?

Background

Some Roku streaming players have a light on the front of the unit. Under normal operation this light is off or white, and may flash when you press buttons on your remote control.

However, there are cases when this light may turn RED.

The RED LIGHT may flash or it may not. If it is NOT flashing (SOLID RED LIGHT), then your Roku player is overheating.

What should I do?

WARNING: Be careful! The unit may be hot.

  1. Carefully unplug the power cable from your Roku player and allow it to cool down.
  2. Find a cooler location for your Roku player; avoid placing the unit:
    • a. Inside a cabinet or other closed space;
      b. On top of other electronic devices such as cable boxes, routers, or AVR receivers.
      c. In direct sunlight
  3. Wait at least 10 minutes for your Roku player to cool down. Once cooled, plug the power adapter back in and wait for the Roku player to power-on. If the light is still SOLID RED, then immediately unplug the power-cable.
  4. Repeat step 3 one more time. If your Roku player continues to show a SOLID RED LIGHT, then you should not use your Roku player and contact customer support.
