How to find 4K movies and TV shows

Just like your smartphone has an “app store” for installing new applications, you can access the Roku Channel Store on your Roku® streaming device to add new “channels”. Although some channels have to be purchased or require a paid subscription, many others allow you to watch movies and TV shows for free. Among the choices are channels that offer movies and TV shows in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Finding 4K channels in the Roku Channel Store

You can browse the Roku Channel Store directly from your Roku streaming device.

  1. Press home the button on your remote to go to the main screen.
  2. Scroll down and select Streaming Channels.
  3. Select 4K UHD Content Available to browse channels that offer 4K movies and TV shows.

When you are not in front of your Roku device, you can browse the Roku Channel Store from your computer or smartphone.

  1. Go to channelstore.roku.com.
  2. Select My account and sign in to your Roku account. At the top of the site is a selection of categories and genres to explore. Scroll left or right and select 4K UHD Content Available to browse the channels that offer 4K movies and TV shows.

Adding channels that offer 4K content

When you find a channel offering 4K movies and TV shows that you want to install, add the channel to your Roku device. If you install a channel and later decide you do not want it, the channel can easily be removed from your Roku device.

Finding 4K movies and TV shows across multiple channels

The 4K Spotlight channel is installed on Roku streaming devices that support 4K Ultra HD. In addition to a list of channels that offer 4K content, the 4K Spotlight channel presents 4K movies and TV shows across multiple channels in different categories. Use the steps below to access the 4K Spotlight channel.

  1. Press the home button on your remote to go to the main screen.
  2. Select Home to view your channel lineup.
    Tip: When browsing, press  or  on your remote to jump up or down one page at a time.
  3. Select the 4K Spotlight channel.

When you select a movie or TV show from the 4K Spotlight channel, you are redirected to the channel offering the content. If the channel is not installed on your Roku device, you will be prompted to add it before the 4K movie or TV show can be viewed.

If the 4K Spotlight channel is not installed on your Roku device, use the instructions above to find the channel and add it. The 4K Spotlight channel is not available on Roku devices that do not support 4K Ultra HD. In order to view 4k movies and TV shows, you will need a compatible 4k TV. Check with the  channel provider for specific bandwidth requirements.
