What is The Roku® Channel?

The Roku Channel offers hit Hollywood movies, TV shows, news and more for free. It is a completely free, ad-supported channel for Roku device owners. There are no subscriptions, purchases or rentals required, and it has fewer ads than traditional broadcast TV. The Roku Channel can be installed when you initially set up and activate your Roku® streaming player or Roku TV, or you can add it later from the Roku Channel Store.

What type of content is available?

How do I install The Roku Channel?

To get The Roku Channel on your Roku device, you can add it during the initial setup process when activating your Roku device, or you can wait and add it later from the Roku Channel Store.

Once installed, it will appear at the bottom of the list of channels under Home on the main screen. If you prefer, The Roku Channel can be moved higher in the list.

Why am I not able to install The Roku Channel on my Roku device?

The Roku Channel is only available on current generation Roku streaming devices. If you are unfamiliar with the details of your Roku device, use the steps below to determine if The Roku Channel can be installed on your device.

  1. Press the Home button home button on Roku remote on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Streaming Channels.
  3. Select Search Channels and enter “The Roku Channel” using the on-screen keyboard. If you do not see the channel listed in search results, then The Roku Channel is not supported on your Roku device.

If you have more than one Roku device linked to your Roku account, The Roku Channel can only be installed on the supported devices in your account.

What should I do if there are problems during playback?

If playback of a movie, TV show, or news on The Roku Channel does not begin or it starts and stops, review the steps for identifying and resolving playback issues.

Can I hide certain content?

No. The content that appears on The Roku Channel cannot be filtered to hide specific titles.

Can I remove The Roku Channel?

Yes. You can remove The Roku Channel from your Roku device after highlighting it on your Home screen and pressing the star button star button on Roku remote on your Roku remote.

  • Tip: To control who can install channels on your Roku device, create a 4-digit PIN for your Roku account.

How do I find a movie or TV show I was previously watching on The Roku Channel?

A Continue Watching row is provided which allows you to easily find and resume playback of any title still available on The Roku Channel that you began watching and did not finish.

Why can I no longer find a movie I was previously watching on The Roku Channel?

To keep the library of content fresh, certain titles may only be available for a limited time. To stay up to date on top titles available in The Roku Channel, follow the Roku blog.
