The Roku Channel offers hit Hollywood movies and more for free. It is a completely free, ad-supported channel for Roku device owners. There are no subscriptions, purchases or rentals required, and it has fewer ads than traditional broadcast TV. Beginning September 6, 2017, The Roku Channel will be rolled out in phases reaching all current generation Roku streaming devices over the coming weeks. Once available for your device, it can be installed on your Roku streaming player or Roku TV™ from the Roku Channel Store.
What type of content is available?
We work with popular content publishers on the Roku platform and the biggest motion picture studios in Hollywood to make hundreds of titles available at no cost to you. Among these favorites from years past are award-winning films, big screen classics, box office hits and much more. New content is added regularly and can be easily discovered when you launch The Roku Channel.
How do I install The Roku Channel?
To get The Roku Channel on your Roku device, it must be added from the Roku Channel Store. Once installed, it will appear at the bottom of the list of channels under Home on the main screen. If you prefer, The Roku Channel can be moved higher in the list.
Why am I not able to install The Roku Channel on my Roku device?
Currently, The Roku Channel is only available on select current generation Roku devices. If you cannot add The Roku Channel to your current generation Roku device, check back in the coming weeks as we continue to roll it out. We plan to have The Roku Channel available for all current generation Roku devices when the rollout is complete.
If you were able to add The Roku Channel from the Roku Channel Store and you have more than one Roku device linked to your Roku account, The Roku Channel will only be installed on the supported devices in your account. When the channel becomes available for the other current generation devices linked to your Roku account, it will install automatically.
What should I do if there are problems during playback?
If playback of a movie or TV show on The Roku Channel does not begin or it starts and stops, review the steps for identifying and resolving playback issues.
Can I hide certain content?
No. The content that appears on The Roku Channel cannot be filtered to hide specific titles.
Can I remove The Roku Channel?
Yes. You can remove The Roku Channel from your Roku device after highlighting it on your Home screen and pressing the star button on your Roku remote.
Tip: To control who can install channels on your Roku device, create a 4-digit PIN for your Roku account.
Why can I no longer find a movie I was previously watching on The Roku Channel?
To keep the library of content fresh, certain titles may only be available for a limited time. To stay up to date on top titles available in The Roku Channel, follow the Roku blog.
