Note: When a free trial ends, that channel is converted into a regular subscription and you are billed on a recurring basis, thus the reason for an authorization hold. To avoid being billed on a recurring basis, cancel your subscription before the trial period expires.
What is an authorization hold?
An authorization hold (sometimes referred to as “pre-authorization hold”) is a common anti-fraud practice banks use to verify your account is active and valid for future transactions, such as a Hulu subscription or Fandango movie purchase. If you use American Express or Discover as your payment method, the authorization hold amount is typically $1 (USD).
Am I being charged this amount?
No, your account is not being charged. A transaction may be listed as “pending”, but no amount is collected by Roku. Any such temporary hold is typically released in 3-5 business days depending on your bank’s policy. If a hold has not been released in more than 30 days, please contact the bank issuing your credit or debit card.
Why do I see more than one authorization charge on my statement?
