The Roku mobile app cannot find my Roku® streaming device


The Roku® mobile app is a free application for iOS® and Android™ devices that turns your mobile device into a control center for your Roku streaming player or Roku TV™. The first step to taking advantage of the app is to choose the Roku device from the device discovery screen that appears when you first launch the app.

My Roku device does not appear on the discovery screen

If your Roku device does not appear in the discovery screen list, it could be caused by one of the following:

  1. Your Roku device and your mobile device are not connected to the same wireless network. Review the suggestions to help find the correct wireless network.
  2. Your Roku device is using a public IP address. You can find the IP address by visiting Settings > Network > About on your Roku device. This is most common when a router is not installed on your network. Install a router to manage the IP addresses, or contact your ISP or the person who manages your network to help resolve this problem.

    Devices on your network, such as your Roku device, should be using a private IP address that falls within one of the following ranges:
  1. The network your Roku device is connected to has AP isolation enabled. Refer to documentation for your router* to learn how to disable this setting.
  2. A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is commonly used when you work from home and need to connect your mobile device to the work network. Check that your mobile device is not connected to your VPN as some VPN applications route all traffic through the VPN and therefore cause your Roku device to not be visible.

After trying the steps above, I still do not see my Roku device

If your Roku device still does not appear, try the following:

  1. At the bottom of the Discovery screen, tap Connect Manually and enter the IP address of your Roku device. You can find the IP address by visiting Settings > Network > About on your Roku device.
  2. Restart your Roku device and ensure that it is connected to the correct wireless network.
  3. Restart your Roku mobile app by doing one of the following:
    • On iOS devices, double click the iOS home button and then swipe the Roku app to close it.
      After it has been closed, tap on the Roku app icon to launch.
    • On Android devices, press the Recents button and then swipe the Roku app to close it. After it has been closed, tap on the Roku app icon to launch.
  4. Many routers today utilize two signals to provide better speed and coverage. These devices are generally referred to as dual band routers because they transmit data at the lower 2.4 GHz band and at the higher 5 GHz band. When connecting devices to your wireless network, the choices may include more than one network with a similar name (e.g., MyNetwork_2.4GHz, MyNetwork_5GHz). Confirm that your Roku device and your mobile device are connected to the same band and network name.
